The month-long ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is finally set to conclude as Pakistan(PAK) and England(ENG) are to cross swords in the summit clash for the coveted title of the event Down Under. Both sides will travel to Melbourne ahead of their all-important clash that is scheduled to be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, November 13.

The heavyweights are coming into the fixture with massive wins, projecting nothing short of sheer dominance in their respective last four fixtures against New Zealand and team India. While fans of both the cricketing nations are eagerly looking forward to the mega clash on Sunday, the possibility of rain threatening the play looms large. Melbourne, the hosts for the finals, has been gravely affected by rain on three occasions previously in the Super 12 stage and it is very likely that the final contest too could be in major doubt for a full-fledged game.

For the knockout fixtures in the competition, a minimum of 10 overs per side is needed to constitute a match, as compared with the five overs during the Super 12 stage. Moreover, a reserve day has been allocated for the final fixture on Monday, November 14. However, if the rain gods make their presence felt on both days, the two finalists will share the trophy as per the rules set by the ICC.

Speaking about their head-to-head record in the marquee event, the Men in Green have played two matches back in 2009 and ’10, losing on both occasions to the English side. However, things could be different after more than a decade, the Babar Azam-led side will be looking to break that streak and more importantly win their second title Down Under.

Showers are expected on matchday and reserve day

As per the weather predictions by ‘AccuWeather’, the clash between the giants is expected to be interrupted by the rain gods making their presence felt. The contest is to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) at 7.00 pm local time (1.30 pm IST).

The weather throughout the day is expected to have long periods of rain followed by a thunderstorm. Leading up to the match which is to be played towards the evening, the probability of precipitation is 94% with wind gusts at 44 km/h and 56% chances of thunderstorm. Towards the later half of the matchday, the cloud cover will remain at 87% with the probability of precipitation increasing to 96%.

As for the reserve day, the weather does not seem likely to improve as the probability of precipitation remains at 64% with a couple of late showers and cloud cover of 76%. However, things could be different come Sunday as per the changing weather patterns.

The track at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is a well-balanced one and considering the weather, new ball might swing early on.
