Australia ended their ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in style with a thumping nine-wicket win over Oman at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
It was a dead-rubber, with both of the teams eliminated from the competition. After winning the toss, Mitchell Marsh invited Oman to bat, and it was a total domination by the Aussie bowlers as they bundled out the opposition for just 104 in 16.2 overs. None of the Oman batters, except Wasim Ali, who scored 32 off 33 balls, survived for much long against the brilliant bowling by the 2021 T20 World Cup champions.
Captain Jatinder Singh scored 17 runs, whereas Hammad Mirza made 16 runs in 13 balls. Veteran leg-spinner Adam Zampa was the star of the show, picking up four wickets, while giving away 21 runs in his 3.2 overs spell. Glenn Maxwell and Xavier Bartlett, too, picked up two wickets each, whereas Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Ellis took one wicket each.
In reply, chasing a modest target, the Aussie openers Travis Head and captain Mitchell Marsh ran riot with a 93-run opening partnership in just 8.1 overs, making it a one-sided affair. Marsh scored unbeaten 64, whereas Head got dismissed on 32 before wicketkeeper Josh Inglis finished things off with a 12-run cameo.
Left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed was the sole successful bowler from Oman, who took Head’s wicket. Adam Zampa was named Player of the Match for his match-winning spell. Australia will head home, ending their disappointing World Cup campaign on a high.
