'The best is yet to come' - David Miller rubbishes T20I retirement reports

David Miller has rubbished reports suggesting that he has taken retirement from T20Is after South Africa failed to cross the final hurdle at the T20 World Cup 2024 last month.

Miller, who is one of the most destructive batters in limited-overs cricket, had the opportunity to take South Africa across the line in the summit clash of the T20 World Cup against India. The Proteas needed 16 to win off the last over and Miller was on strike. However, he failed to deposit a full toss from Hardik Pandya, getting spectacularly caught at long-off by Suryakumar Yadav. The Proteas went on to lose the title clash by seven runs.

Recently, some reports suggested that the dramatic final was Miller's last appearance for the Rainbow Nation in the shortest format of the game. This came as a huge shock to cricket enthusiasts as Miller is still one of the most dangerous players in the format and has maintained exceptional fitness even at the age of 35. However, on Tuesday, July 2, the southpaw quashed all retirement reports with an Instagram story.

"Contrary to reports, I have not retired from T20 international cricket. I will continue to be available for the Proteas. The best is yet to come," Miller wrote.

Miller has played 173 ODIs for South Africa and has amassed 4,458 runs at an average of 42.06 and a strike rate of 103.31. Meanwhile, in 125 T20Is, the Pietermaritzburg-born has scored 2,439 runs at an average of 33.41 and a strike rate of 140.66.

David Miller set to represent LAKR in MLC 2024

Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) finished last in the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket in 2023. They will be seeking redemption in the impending season of the cash-rich league, starting Saturday, July 6. The Sunil Narine-led side made some key additions ahead of the second season and Miller is certainly one of them.

His experience of playing close to 500 T20 matches will undoubtedly stand LAKR in good stead. The Los Angeles-based franchise begin its campaign on July 6, as they take on Texas Super Kings at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
