Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings will take each other on in Match No. 59 of IPL 2025 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. RR are out of contention for the playoffs, while one win will see Punjab Kings through to the last four.
The Royals' season has been nothing short of a disaster as they sit in ninth place on the points table with just three wins in 12 matches. Their last match, against KKR in Kolkata, ended in a thriller. KKR were motoring along for the first three quarters of their innings, but Andre Russell gave them the perfect boost to shore up their total.
RR started worryingly losing two wickets within the first two overs of the innings, but Varun Chakravarthy struck in the middle overs to have them five down in the seventh over itself. Shimron Hetmyer was comfortable playing second fiddle, while the show belonged to Riyan Parag. Parag smashed the KKR bowlers all over the park in a scintillating knock of 95 runs, during which he also hit sixes off six consecutive balls that he faced - albeit across two overs.
Parag's dismissal eventually turned the game around, with KKR clawing back. Eventually, Vaibhav Arora was tasked with defending 19 runs off the last four balls. Shubham Dubey went 6, 4, 6, but Arora successfully defended three runs off the last ball to give KKR a one-run win.
Punjab Kings' last match was arguably a harrowing experience for everyone involved. Against Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya made fifties, put up 122 in just ten overs before T Natarajan broke the stand. At the fall of the wicket, a floodlight malfunction ensued, and the match was called off. Less than 24 hours later, the news of IPL 2025's suspension broke out.
After the rescheduling of the tournament, it was decided that the Dharamsala game between PBKS and DC stood voided with no runs or wickets going towards the players' records. In the game before that, PBKS had registered a comprehensive victory over LSG, also in Dharamsala.
