On Saturday, August 24, Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket through a social media post. The elegant left-handed batter registered several incredible feats during his illustrious career. Here are some of the key numbers from his career.

187 - Dhawan didn't have a great start to his international career as he was bowled for a two-ball duck by Clint McKay in his first ODI appearance in 2010. However, he redeemed himself on his Test debut as he smashed 187 against Australia in Mohali. This was the highest score by an Indian debutant in men's Test matches, and the eighth-best overall. Dhawan reached the magical three-figure mark off just 85 deliveries, the fastest on debut.

44.11 - Dhawan finished his ODI career with an average of 44.11 from 164 innings, amassing 6,793 runs at a strike rate of 91.35. He is among the 19 Indian batters to have scored 3,000 or more runs in ODI cricket. Only four Indian batters - Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Sachin Tendulkar have scored more than 3,000 runs with better averages.

65.15 - Dhawan had a staggering average of 65.15 in 50-over ICC events like the ODI World Cups and Champions Trophies. In 20 innings, he scored six centuries and 10 half-centuries. Among the 51 batters who have scored at least 1,000 runs in these tournaments, his average is the highest, marginally better than Kohli's 64.55. In World Cups, Dhawan averaged 53.70 from ten innings, and in Champions Trophy matches, he averaged 77.88 from as many outings.

18 - Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma forged one of the greatest opening partnerships in ODI cricket. They had aggregated 18 century partnerships for the first wicket in ODIs, which is the second-best for any opening pair. Only the iconic duo of Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly had more century partnerships (21). Also, the tally of 5,148 partnership runs between Rohit and Rohit is the fourth-highest among all opening pairs, next only to Ganguly-Tendulkar, Adam Gilchrist-Matthew Hayden, and Gordon Greenidge-Desmond Haynes.

140 - Dhawan took 140 innings to complete 6000 ODI runs. Only four batters have taken fewer innings to get to the milestone in men's ODIs - Hashim Amla, Kohli, Kane Williamson, and David Warner.

109 - Dhawan's scored 109 off 105 balls against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2018 in what was his 100th ODI appearance. This made him one of only ten batters to score a century in his 100th match in the format.

61 - In 24 Test innings on Asian soil, he scored 1,403 runs with six hundreds at a staggering Test average of 61. However, his average dropped to 26.82 in the 34 innings he played outside Asia, scoring only 912 with a solitary ton.

12 - Dhawan notched up 12 ODI centuries outside India, out of the 17 he scored in the format. Unlike in Tests, he had an excellent ODI record outside Asia, averaging 44.03 at a strike rate of 89.34. It was even better in countries like Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa: in 68 innings in these four countries, he averaged 46.68 at a strike rate of 91.73, with eight hundreds.

6769 - Dhawan finished his IPL career with 6,769 runs. Only Virat Kohli (8,004) has more runs than him at this point. The southpaw's 768 fours are the most by any player in the league, well ahead of Kohli's 705.

5 - Instances of Dhawan topping 500 runs in an IPL season - in 2012, 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2021. Only Kohli, Warner (seven each), and KL Rahul (six) have achieved this feat on more occasions. In 2018, he fell slightly short of the tally, finishing with an aggregate of 497 runs.
