South Africa suffered a stunning exit as they got beaten by the Netherlands by 13 runs in yet another upset of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. Player of the Match Colin Ackermann made an unbeaten 41 off 26 to help the Dutch in posting 158/4 before the bowlers restricted the Proteas to 145/8 to end their campaign in Match 40 in Adelaide.

Speaking of the South Africa-Netherlands game, Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to field first. Ackermann top-scored for his side as he struck three fours and two maximums while Stephen MyBurgh mustered 37. Keshav Maharaj picked 2/27 in his four overs as the Proteas restricted the Dutch to below 160.

In reply, Rilee Rossouw scored the most runs (25) for his team as no other batter got going. Brandon Glover was the pick of the Dutch bowlers for his spell of 3/9 in just two overs. Ackermann grabbed the POTM award for his match-winning knock and a tight spell of 3/16.

In the second clash, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by five wickets at the same venue as they sealed the semi-final spot. The final match of the Super 12 round saw India thrashing Zimbabwe by a 71-run margin in Melbourne courtesy of another destructive innings of 61* off 25 from Suryakumar Yadav.

In a virtual quarter-final, Shakib Al Hasan won the toss as Bangladesh elected to bat first. Opener Najmul Hossain Shanto smashed 54 but got no support from others. Pace sensation Shaheen Afridi registered his career-best spell of 4/22 while Shadab Khan also took two wickets as Bangladesh managed to post only 127/8 in 20 overs.

Struggling for providing a good start, openers Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam stitched a 57-run stand. The former made a run-a-ball 32 while skipper Babar amassed only 25. Mohammad Haris played another quickfire cameo of 31 off 18 with Shan Masood remaining not out on 24 off 14 to seal a comfortable win for his side in 18.1 overs. For his solid spell, Afridi won the Player of the Match award.

In the final game before the semis, captain Rohit Sharma won the toss with India opting to bat first. His poor form with the bat continued as he mustered 15, taking his tally to just 89 runs in five innings this WC. KL Rahul recorded back-to-back half-centuries as he made 51 off 35 with three fours and as many maximums. Virat Kohli got dismissed for 26 off 25 but it was Suryakumar yet again at the helm as the batter hammered 61* off just 25, with six fours and four sixes to take India’s total to 186/5.

Chasing a massive target of 187, Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl scored 34 and 35 respectively but the rest of the Zimbabwean batting line-up struggled. All the Indian bowlers found themselves in the wicket column with spinner R Ashwin the pick of the lot for his spell of 3/22 in four overs. Craig Ervine and his side got bundled out for just 115, handing India a convincing one-sided victory. For his breathtaking knock which included some outrageous shots, Yadav won the POTM award.

India will face England in the second semi-final of the WC on November 10 in Adelaide while New Zealand locks horns with Pakistan the previous day in Sydney.
