Demotion in batting order disappointed Dinesh Karthik, reveals Rohit Sharma

Despite Bangladesh posting a decent target in the Nidahas Trophy final on Sunday, Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik steered India home. Rohit Sharma chipped in with a crucial half-century at the top whilst Karthik played a majestic cameo under severe pressure. Rohit and company literally snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat.

After the match, Rohit heaped praises on Dinesh Karthik for his brilliant rendition. Karthik hit 3 sixes and 2 fours in his 8-ball 29, which eventually won him the player of the match award. With 5 runs needed in one ball, the odds were completely against him and he clobbered a sensational six over covers to gift India the Nidahas Trophy.

Rohit said that Karthik is always ready to deliver and his experience will help him become a brilliant finisher in the coming time. Karthik was with the Indian side in the South Africa tour but failed to get any opportunities. This is the kind of innings, according to Rohit, which will instill a lot of confidence in the 32-year-old.

“Karthik is always ready to deliver whatever the situation may be and his experience and repertoire of strokes make him a suitable candidate to provide the final flourish for India at the death overs”, Sharma said.

Rohit revealed that Karthik was upset after Vijay Shankar got the promotion in the batting order. Whilst Karthik managed to save his fellow Tamil Nadu teammate’s day, he apparently was upset with the demotion in the batting lineup. “When I got out, I went and sat in the dugout and Dinesh was quite upset that he didn’t bat at No. 6,” Sharma said.

He also added that Karthik has all kinds of shots in his book and that can help him become a brilliant finisher for the country. It’ll be interesting to see if a top-order batsman like him can transcend his game to a finisher, but he certainly has all the potential in him to bat at any position for the side.
