The day 3 of the Dr. DY Patil T20 Cup 2017 lived up to all the expectations. Some good contest between the bat and the ball was seen on the day. CAG made a mockery of ONGC in their encounter as they registered a thumping 9 wicket win. Big stars were on display yet again. Hardik Pandya, who had starred on day 1 of the tournament, continued his good form with the bat.

Pandya was named in the national side for the England series earlier in the day. Another player who rejoiced the national call in befitting manner was Manish Pandey. Playing for BPCL, Pandey hit a crucial 30 in a losing cause against DY Patil (B). KB Pawan, Swapnil Salvi, Eknath Kerkar, Kevin Almeida were the batsmen who notched up fifties on the third day of the T20 league.

However, there was one man who bagged all the limelight. Delhi’s Rishabh Pant, who played for Reliance 1, plundered 43 runs off mere 14 deliveries to celebrate his inclusion in the Indian T20I side. Here is a brief round up of day 3 of Dr. DY Patil T20 Cup 2017:

Canara Bank v RBI Sport’s Club – Pawan’s 62 in vain as RBI notch up clinical win

The RBI Sport’s Club won the toss and opted to field first. Canara Bank had a tough start to their batting as they lost both their openers cheaply. It was KB Pawan, who then played a lone ranging knock of unbeaten 62 to help Canara bank post 135 on the board. Wickets kept tumbling from the other end.

Jyot Chhaya was the pick of the bowlers with 2/20 to his name. In the run chase, RBI’s opener Sumit Ghadigaonkar scored a timely 47 off 41 balls to help his side win by 7 wickets. He was well supported by Dhruv Shaurya, who hit an unbeaten 46.

Brief Scores:

Canara Bank 135/6 in 20 overs (Pawan 62*, D Negi 25, Chhaya 2/20)

RBI Sport’s Club 136/3 in 18.2 overs (Ghadigaonkar 47, Shaurya 46*, Suchith 2/21)

CAG v ONGC – CAG thump hapless ONGC by 9 wickets

CAG continued their good run as they put ONGC to bat first after winning the toss. ONGC lost their opener Ishan Kishan for a duck early in the innings. His opening partner, Shubham Khujeria scored 43 off 30. Muhammad Saif scored a brisk 36 but it was Rahul Tewatia 21-ball 41 with 4 sixes and 2 fours that helped ONGC put a decent 160/7 on the board.

CAG were guided to a thumping 9 wicket win riding on opener Swapnil Salvi’s unbeaten fifty. He scored 89 off just 47 balls with 9 sixes ad 5 fours. Bervesh Shetty scored an unbeaten 37.

Brief Scores:

ONGC 160/7 in 20 overs (Khujeria 43, Tewatia 41, Ishwar 2/19)

CAG 164/1 (Salvi 89*, Shetty 37*)

DY Patil (B) v BPCL – DY Patil holds the nerve in cliffhanger

In a very close match, DY Patil (B) managed to eke out a narrow 2 wicket over BPCL. BPCL had a horrid start losing their opener Bhavin on a duck. However, it was Eknath Kerkar’s 51 off 32 balls combined with Manish Pandey’s 30 off 26 balls that bailed them out of trouble. Sadly for the BPCL, a lower order collapse saw them bundle get only 148/9 in their 20 overs.

DY Patil (B) were led by Mumbai batsman Kevin Almeida’s fifty at the top. Crucial lower order contributions from Pravin Tambe and Gaurav Jathar helped their side get over the line with 2 wickets in hand and a ball to spare.

Brief Scores:

BPCL 148/9 in 20 overs (Kerkar 51, Manish 30, Sarfaraz 2/12)

DY Patil (B) 149/8 in 19.5 overs (Almeida 53, Rinku 36, Rishi Arother 4/23)
