“When India and England face off in England, not mere stories, but legendary tales are scripted,” said one of the commercials before this series commenced. One has to accept that this contest is living up to the expectations, providing another entertaining contest for the fans at Bristol.

Unfortunately for the Englishmen, the tour has begun on a negative note for them. Despite getting off to a great start in the decider on Sunday, they started losing their way in the second half of their batting innings. With Rohit Sharma leading the batting attack, Kohli played a good assisting hand which took India over the line quite easily.

Kohli and Rohit timed the chase to perfection, took minimal risks and managed to take full advantage of the short boundaries. It was a clinical performance from the visitors, which should give them heaps of confidence before the ODI and Test series commences. Here are the Indian player ratings from the high-scoring game from south-west England.

1. Shikhar Dhawan – 3/10

Can consider himself unlucky with his dismissal, but that doesn’t earn him a good rating for this game. Dhawan smashed a boundary off the first ball he faced and when he tried to flick away a loose delivery towards fine-leg, he picked the only fielder existing in that area.

2. Rohit Sharma – 9/10

Rohit became only the third cricketer to score 3 T20I centuries and this knock was clinically constructed. He never rushed away from the required rate and never lagged behind. There can never be a perfect inning in cricket, but this is as close as it can get. He remained unbeaten on 100* and was the Player of the Match and Series.

3. KL Rahul – 5/10

Got off to a spectacular start, but Rahul once again fluffed a brilliant opportunity to get a big score. He was dismissed thanks to a spectacular catch by Chris Jordan, but he showed glimpses of his class in his short-little stay.

4. Virat Kohli – 7/10

Missed out on a well-deserved fifty, but Virat Kohli stitched a crucial partnership with Rohit to kill the English hopes. He played some terrific shots off the quick bowlers and he clearly is ready for the big challenges that lie ahead with the willow.

5. Suresh Raina – NA

Barely had anything to do in the game and difficult to rate him. Even when he was fielding, he came into action on rare occasions.

6. Hardik Pandya – 9.5/10

A sensational performance from Hardik Pandya justified his reputation as one of the best all-rounders in the world. Despite conceding over 22 runs in his first over, he struck back hard and picked up 4 wickets to finish with 4/38 in his four overs. With the bat, he came out and stroked away the little hopes England had off coming back in the game. He smashed 33 from 14. Unquestionably, he was the best player on the pitch.

7. MS Dhoni – 7/10

Another day, another record-breaking day for the cult legend of Indian cricket. MS Dhoni was involved in 6 dismissals (5 Catches and 1 run-out) and no other cricketer has been involved in more dismissals in this format of the game. Didn’t get to bat, but he had his say in the game.

8. Siddarth Kaul – 7/10

Considering the pitch wasn’t assisting the bowlers much and the boundaries were too short, Siddarth Kaul did a pretty decent job, registering figures of 2/35. He continued his good IPL form and justified his skipper’s questionable team selection.

9. Deepak Chahar – 5/10

Young Deepak Chahar had a forgettable debut, but there were some moments in the game which he will remember for a long time. Ironically, he failed to get any considerable swing. He gave too many runs in the powerplay and that spoiled his bowling figures (1/43) a lot.

10. Umesh Yadav – 4/10

Umesh Yadav started off on a positive note, but as the game progressed, he failed to cope with the English assault. He conceded 48 runs and returned with one wicket, which came in the death overs.

11. Yuzvendra Chahal – 5/10

It could’ve been a 6 for Chahal, but he wasn’t great with his fielding. But take nothing away from his incredible spell, which took the momentum away from the English. He conceded just 30 runs and was unfortunate to have not picked up any wickets.
