England’s tour of India has mostly been about the visitors starting with a bang and then falling apart. It was the case in the Test series, and things didn’t change even in the T20Is. It’s now time for the ODI series, which is scheduled to get underway on March 23 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Both teams have announced their respective squads for the red-ball fixtures.

In the last two ODI series, India have lost five out of six games, but their recent form should give them the desired confidence going ahead. In Pune, the Men in Blue have played four ODIs and have won two of them. Against England, they have won their only game back in 2017. Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav scored tons. But the Brits with a power-packed unit won’t be easy to defeat.

Pitch and conditions

The pitch in Pune has been a batting-friendly one over the years. In four ODIs, the average score is around 280, suggesting that a fairly high-scoring game seems to be on the cards. There are no chances of rain and the temperature will be around 31 degrees Celsius. The humidity will mostly be in the 20s.

Probable Top Performers of IND vs ENG

Rohit Sharma (India)

Rohit Sharma should be high on confidence after his quick-fire 64 in the final T20I of the series. He looked in ominous touch before Ben Stokes dismissed him against the run of play. Rohit has an ODI average of 50.44 after 13 games with a couple of tons. He will be looking to play another knock of substance.

Jason Roy (England)

The only time Jason Roy played a game against India in Pune, he smashed 73 runs off 61 balls, though it came in a losing cause. He has been one of the major reasons why England have been able to show their dominance. In the T20I series, he looked in good form with scores of 49, 46, and 40.
