Team India is currently gearing up for the two-match against Bangladesh. After this, they will host the West Indies for playing three T20Is and ODIs each. The 50-over series will start from 15th December that will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium. And, there comes a piece of news for the fans, who are planning to visit the series opener at the Chepauk stadium between the Caribbean team and Men in Blue.

There are some stands in the Chepauk stadium that have been not been opened for the fans from the last eight years. But, one of the sources has come out with a  revelation that the spectators might get access to those galleries that have been left exempted from getting used during the matches.

Stands are closed from last 8 years

A source has revealed that the state revenue department was taking its time in order to revise the time duration and lease rent. After, lots of hit and trials, they came to a conclusion of giving it on a lease for 20 years rather than giving it on for 99 years. And, now the state department has been asked for the receipts.

“Earlier, the state revenue department was taking time in revising the amount for the lease rent and the time period. But after much deliberations, the lease period was decided to be 20 years rather than the erstwhile 99 years. The state department has asked for receipts from TNCA and several other sports bodies like the MCC and Madras Race Club. After seeing the receipts, they are to decide on the lease rent.

“According to a Comptroller and Auditor General of India report, there were also issues about the pending rent of Rs 2,081 crore for the period between 2000-2016 from TNCA and Madras Cricket Club (MCC). But it seems that they have reached a settlement on that amount too as the dues were miscalculated because the property tax for a sports body is much less,” the source said as quoted by TOI.

The source also recited that the TNCA has settled this dispute and are waiting for the documents in order to get the clearance from the corporation. “Once the corporation clears the documents, we will approach the High Court to get the order to demolish the gym. It shouldn’t be an issue and the gym can be brought down in a day,” he added.

Earlier, the restriction to open the gates of the three stands of the stadium had exempted the Chepauk from scheduling some high profile matches.
