The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 came to a close with Chennai Super Kings being crowned the champions after a thumping 8-wicket win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The season witnessed some unbelievable performances with both bat and ball from players of all the eight teams. There was an exponential increase in the six-hitting ability of all players. The 2018 season could go down as one of the best in terms of producing thrillers with more than half of the matches going down to the final ball or final over of the game.
All the stats and numbers that were recorded during the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League:
5/14 – Ankit Rajpoot’s bowling figures of 5/14 against Sunrisers Hyderabad is the only 5-wicket haul recorded this season. His team Kings XI Punjab lost the game played in Hyderabad by 13 runs.
8 – Kane Williamson scored eight fifties in IPL 2018 which is the most by any player while Shane Watson was the only player to score two hundreds this year.
12 – Shikhar Dhawan was the most successful fielder in IPL 2018 as he held on to 12 catches in 16 matches. Ravindra Jadeja (11) and Krishnappa Gowtham (10) are the other players with 10+ catches this season.
18 – Dinesh Karthik’s 18 dismissals in this tournament are the joint 2nd most for any keeper in an IPL edition. Kumar Sangakkara effected 19 dismissals in the 2011 IPL for Deccan Chargers.
Karthik’s four dismissals against Rajasthan Royals in the league stage game in Kolkata are the joint most for any keeper in an IPL game this season. The Royals’ keeper Heinrich Klaasen effected four dismissals in their next game against RCB.
24 – Andrew Tye’s 24 wickets in 14 matches are the most for any player this season. This is the first time the purple cap holder’s team didn’t make it to the final four. Tye took three 4-wicket hauls this time to become the first player to take three 4-fers in a season. He is also the only player with more than one 4-fer in IPL 2018.
37 – Rishabh Pant’s 37 sixes in the season are the most for any player. His 37 sixes are the 2nd most for any Indian in a season behind Virat Kohli’s 38 in 2016. Pant hit 68 fours as well which is also the most by any player.
87/10 – Mumbai Indians registered the lowest score of the season when they were bowled out for 87 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The defending champions fell well short of the target chasing 119 at their home venue Wankhede.
128* – Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 128-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad was the highest individual score in the tournament. However, Pant’s efforts went in vain as Delhi Daredevils ended up on the losing side in their home game by a huge 9-wicket margin.
167 – Rashid Khan bowled the most number of dot balls in the season. His 167 dot balls are the 3rd most in an 8-team IPL edition behind Ashish Nehra’s 170 in 2015 and Dale Steyn’s 168 in 2009.
245/6 – Kolkata Knight Riders’ total of 245/6 against Kings XI Punjab was the highest total in this edition of the tournament. The game played at the Holkar Stadium witnessed a total of 459 runs which is the 2nd most in an IPL game ever.
735 – Kane Williamson’s tally of 735 runs in IPL 2018 is the 3rd highest for any player in an edition of the tourney. Virat Kohli (973) and David Warner (848) scored over 800 runs in the 2016 IPL for RCB and SRH respectively.
872 – As many as 872 sixes were hit in this IPL which are the most in any season. The previous most number of sixes in an edition was 731 in 2012.
