MS Dhoni has been a fulcrum of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ever since the inception of the tournament in 2008. Yesterday, he captained CSK to their third IPL title in a thrilling contest at the Wankhede Stadium. Apart from his leadership skills, he also contributed with the willow and played some jaw-dropping knocks to guide his team to victory on a few occasions.

The Yellow Army churned out some brilliant cricket and brushed aside the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in the Grand Finale. The CSK skipper wore jersey number seven and mentioned it to be his lucky number following the Yellow Army’s resounding victory. Co-incidentally, Dhoni’s birthday is also on the seventh day of the seventh month of the calendar year (July 7).

CSK’s belief to win

“Every win is special, so I can’t compare this with our other wins. Lot of people talk about numbers, statistics, so tonight’s 27th, my jersey number is 7, and this was our seventh final,” MS Dhoni was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are Sunrisers’ gun-bowlers and the Chennai batsmen trod a sensible route by playing them out. Meanwhile, they went after the others and approached the target in a systematic manner. Most importantly, they didn’t let panic sneak in despite a few quiet overs in the start of their run-chase. The wicket-keeper batsman also mentioned about the same in his chat.

“I thought it was a great batting effort tonight. You have to keep in mind that Bhuvi is as deceptive as Rashid, so it’s not only one bowler in their side that could’ve put pressure on us. We always had the belief that we had the firepower in the middle overs,” the 36-year veteran added while heaping praises on his troopers.
