The Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings returned to the IPL after a big gap of two years. While CSK has made a remarkable comeback and has almost sealed a spot into the final four, the Rajasthan Royals have had a roller coaster ride. Shane Warne, who took RR to the first ever IPL title, was chosen as the mentor of the franchise and the team boasts of top names like Ben Stokes, Jos Butler and Ajinkya Rahane.

The Jaipur based franchise has won five matches from eleven games and still have a chance of making it to the knockout stages. The team needs to win all of its remaining games to have a go against the best sides in the tournament. However, the franchise will be without the services of Shane Warne who has decided to fly back to Australia and end his journey with the Royals on 13th May.

Royals still in with a chance

The Australian legend has been involved with the franchise way back from 2008. Warne took to Instagram to announce his departure and thanked the franchise for the love and support that he has received over the course of the tournament. He wrote: “Unfortunately my last day being involved with the @rajasthanroyalstoday as I head back to Australia tomorrow! It’s been great fun being back involved with the #IPL as I had forgotten how intense, wonderful and great this tournament is.

He added to his post, “What have I learnt? The modern-day batsman in this form of the game has evolved into terrific innovative players with tremendous power. The bowlers need a more aggressive mindset & to think how am I getting the batsman out rather than think containment first. Ground fielding is super athletic & has improved out of sight – but the overall catching can still improve.”

The legendary leg-spinner also added that the team had players who are capable of taking giant strides in their career. Warne predicated Samson to be the next big thing in Indian cricket. “

Lastly, a few thoughts looking ahead! @josbuttler has to play Test Match cricket for England as he’s a quality player & what a difference he could make to the England test side! Mr Root should demand he be picked. I’ve really enjoyed his company as he’s a quality person too. @stokesy is someone you want in the trenches with you & has a quality work ethic.

He added, “I’m looking forward to seeing him back playing international cricket, he’s a bloody good man ! @shortyjnr23 will become an awesome all-round cricketer for Australia & will surprise people with his bowling. @imsanjusamson will be the next big Indian superstar batsman along with Pant & J Archer will soon be the best fast bowler in the world !! Come on the Royals.” he added.

The Royals have their fortunes in their own hands and need not depend on other results at the moment. Three good performances can take them over the line while one bad performance can see them going the other way.
