The Indian Premier League (IPL) is not for the light-hearted people. It was another last-ball finish and once again, the chasing team won. But not without controversy. The last over bowled by Ben Stokes witnessed all the drama and most importantly the furious MS Dhoni who charged into the ground from the dugout to talk with the umpires over a no-ball decision which was changed later.

Eventually, the Men in Yellow won the contest amidst all the drama thanks to a scintillating six from Mitchell Santner. That wide from Stokes cost the Rajasthan Royals game as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered their sixth win.

The chase began on the worst possible note for CSK. Dhawal Kulkarni bowled a snorter to Shane Watson to castle the batsman even as Suresh Raina got run-out in the very next over. Jaydev Unadkat then trapped Faf du Plessis perfectly and Kedar Jadhav was undone by Ben Stokes’ superb catch. All this action led to CSK reducing to 24/4 as the visitors were looking down the barrel with desperation.

However, there was a mandatory partnership then between Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni. Both of them played some scintillating strokes and stitched 95 runs together to take the game deep. However, Stokes was once again at the fore scalping the former courtesy of Shreyas Gopal’s wonderful catch. The equation eventually came down to 30 off last two overs and this was undoubtedly Dhoni’s forte.

But the in-form bowler Jofra Archer was going to bowl the penultimate over. He bowled a brilliant over but the last ball went for four taking Dhoni’s bat’s edge and it came down to 18 off the last over. Ben Stokes was entrusted with the responsibility to defend and he castled the finisher in the house with a brilliant delivery. However, Mitchell Santner kept his cool in the end and smacked a six when CSK needed three off the last ball.

Exceptional bowling from CSK restrict Royals

Earlier, the Royals seemed as if they were going for a big score. Ajinkya Rahane and Jos Buttler both played aggressive cricket from the word go. But the ploy didn’t work for them. The run-rate was really good for the home side but by the time, the powerplay ended, they had lost three wickets. If was a perfect start for them but Buttler got a bit more greedy and gifted his wicket to Shardul Thakur.

Rahul Tripathi, strangely, tried to hit every ball hard and was dismissed. Wickets continued to fall at the regular intervals with the spinners taking control and when Ben Stokes was dismissed by Deepak Chahar, it seemed like they will not even get to 150. But Shreyas Gopal attacked Thakur in the last over as the Royals ended with some momentum at 151 runs after 20 overs.
