Rajasthan Royals (RR), after winning two matches in a row, have pushed them to the fifth position in the points table in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team, captained by Steve Smith, beat the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by seven wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

For KL Rahul and Co, the defeat, in the meantime, halted their winning streak, but they held on to their fourth spot. After KXIP were sent in to bat first, Chris Gayle sparkled with a 63-ball 99 with six fours and as many as eight sixes. Rahul lent him apt support with a 41-ball 46.

In their run-chase, RR got the upper hand, hammering 66 runs in the powerplay and from there on, they didn’t look back and tracked 186 down with 15 balls to spare. RR’s victory has pushed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the sixth position.

Here are the RR Player Ratings for the KXIP vs RR match:

Robin Uthappa- 8/10

Robin Uthappa wasn’t at his brutal best, but he held one end up and stayed until the 11th over. The veteran scored 30 runs off 23 balls with one four and two sixes before Murugan Ashwin dismissed him.

Ben Stokes- 9.5/10

Ben Stokes was on fire as he notched 50 runs off 26 balls in the powerplay. His knock was laced with six fours and three sixes. This time around, he also contributed with the ball, dismissing KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran.

Sanju Samson- 9/10

Sanju Samson is slowly, but surely getting his form back in the business end of the tournament. He notched 48 runs off 25 balls with four fours and three sixes. He fell to a direct hit from Jagadeesha Suchith.

Steve Smith- 8.5/10

Steve Smith came to bat at a stage when the Royals were already on the driver’s seat. The right-hander managed 31 runs off 20 balls with the help of five fours. That he stayed unbeaten would give him confidence.

Jos Buttler- 7.5/10

Jos Buttler didn’t have much to do, but for whatever time he was there in the middle, he was able to show his class. The right-hander smashed two sixes and a four to stay unbeaten on 22 runs off 11 balls.

Riyan Parag- N/A

Rahul Tewatia- 7/10

Rahul Tewatia didn’t get any wicket but also didn’t leak runs at an alarming rate. In his three overs, the leg-spinner gave away 22 runs at a rate of 7.33. Tewatia also took a couple of decent catches in the outfield.

Jofra Archer- 9.5/10

Jofra Archer was on his mark in the four overs he bowled. In his very first over, the Barbados-born removed Mandeep Singh and nipped out Chris Gayle. The pacer bowled at an economy rate of 6.50.

Shreyas Gopal- 3/10

Shreyas Gopal is one of RR’s go-to spinner in critical situations. But he got to bowl only a solitary over. The tweaker conceded a six and gave away 10 runs. It’s a surprise why he didn’t get to bowl more.

Kartik Tyagi- 1/10

Kartik Tyagi had to bear the brunt of the KXIP batters, who laid into him from the word go. In his four overs, the young fast bowler gave away 47 at an economy rate of 11.75 and also bowled one no-ball.

Varun Aaron- 1/10

Varun Aaron had a terrible day with the ball in hand. The speedster bowled 12 dot balls, but otherwise, he was way off his radar. He bowled four wides, one no-ball and leaked as many as 47 runs in four overs.
