The IPL will be stepping into a new era this year. An era of new players, an era of new teams, a scope for sides to restart from a blank slate. The foundation step to the new age shall commence in the coming week – The Mega Auction 2022.

The highly anticipated mega auction will not only provide the ten teams with an opportunity to formulate squads for the future but also players to demand their worth. The final list stands at 590 players who will go under the hammer this time, with the highest base price category of 2 Cr being set by 48 players around the world. A few among that list are either at the fag end of their career or aren’t in great form and this might go against them in the auction.

Here We Bring You 5 Indian Players Who have Set their Base Price Too High

1. Ishant Sharma – INR 2 Cr

It seems like 6’5’’ fast bowler has been playing the sport forever. Having debuted way back in 2007, Ishant Sharma has been an integral part of the Indian setup in different phases of his long career. Consistently clocking 140 kmph in his best days, the Delhi boy despite being a gun bowler in the longest format hasn’t managed to replicate his magic and never got going in the shorter formats.

For the time he has spent in the IPL, he has tasted much success. Donning six different jerseys in his 13-year long journey, he has been a part of the highs and lows of many franchises. Currently placed 38th for the most wickets in the tournament’s records, he has scalped 73 wickets at an economy of 8.09 with his best figures being 5/12 vs Kochi Tuskers, a decade ago. His best season by far has been the 2019 edition with his hometown team Delhi Capitals, being the franchise’s star economical and wicket-taking bowler.

His constant transfer between teams almost every two years reflects his inability to ace the cash-rich league and the shortest format. Ishant Sharma was bagged by the rebranded Delhi team in 2019 for INR 1.1 Cr where he registered himself at a base price of 1 Cr. With his inconsistency in the previous seasons by playing only 4 matches in the last two seasons and inability to retain a spot in the Indian team, the seamer may have overvalued himself too much and may go unsold in the mega auction.
