The IPL 2022 mega auction is underway and fans can’t keep calm. All 10 franchises have come up with a specific game plan as they are looking determined to form a formidable squad. Meanwhile, the opening day of the event saw players fetching big amounts with multiple teams showcasing interest in them. Harshal Patel was the highlight of the second round, having bagged a whooping INR 10.75 crore from RCB. Meanwhile, prominent names also went unsold.

Having blown hot and cold in the last couple of seasons, Manish Pandey’s services were bagged by Lucknow Super Giants, who got him on board for INR 4.6 crore. Shimron Hetmyer attracted hot bids as Rajasthan Royals and his former team Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals showed interest in the West Indies dasher. The Royals eventually emerged winners as they won the bid at INR 8.5 crore.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings reacquired Robin Uthappa’s services for his base price, INR 2 crore. Quite surprisingly, England opener Jason Roy, who has been on song in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022, couldn’t set the auction event on fire. Gujarat Titans got him on board for INR 2 crore. Speaking of surprises, South African dasher David Miller went unsold in the first set.

Having done well for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the last couple of seasons, Devdutt Padikkal ignited a bidding war on expected lines. Rajasthan Royals acquired his services for INR 7.75 crore. Hailed as Mr. IPL, Suresh Raina didn’t attract a single bid and went unsold in the first set. The same was the case for Steve Smith.

Teams went hard after Harshal Patel

Dwayne Bravo was the first name in the all-rounder’s list and multiple sides showed interest in him. However, it was his former team Chennai Super Kings, who got him on board at INR 4.4 crore. Nitish Rana, who slotted himself in the all-rounder’s category, proved out to be a popular pick as Kolkata Knight Riders had to spend INR 8 crore to reacquire his services.

Eyes of many team owners lit up when the much-awaited name of Jason Holder popped up. The all-rounder, has been in stunning form lately, will join forces with KL Rahul as Lucknow Super Giants got him on board for INR 8.75 crore. Purple cap winner of the last season, Harshal Patel was on the wish list of several teams. He became the second player after Shreyas Iyer to fetch out INR 10 crore in this year’s event.

After a lot of tussle with several teams, Royal Challengers Bangalore reacquired his services for a staggering INR 10.75 crore. Deepak Hooda, who’s an Indian international now, went to Lucknow Super Giants for INR 5.75 crore. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan was another big name, who went unsold in the first set.
