The Mumbai Indians (MI) decimated the Rajasthan Royals (RR) side with 8 wickets and 70 balls to spare in the 51st match of IPL 2021. With this crushing win, Rohit Sharma and his men kept their playoff hopes alive.
Mumbai Indians were set a paltry target of 91 for victory, and skipper Rohit Sharma scored an attacking 22 at a strike rate of close to 170 at the top of the order to set the tone for the ‘Men in Blue’. But then, Sharma was removed by Chetan Sakariya in the 4th over of the MI innings. Suryakumar Yadav was the next man to depart and was dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman for 13.
But then, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya finished the job for the Mumbai side with the willow. While Kishan scored an attractive 50* off 25 deliveries, Pandya helped himself to 5*. Chetan Sakariya and Mustafizur Rahman picked up the only 2 wickets to fall for the Mumbai side.
Rajasthan Royals produced a shambolic batting display
The Rajasthan Royals (RR) produced a horrible performance with the bat. The Sanju Samson-led side could only muster a total of 90/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Only Evin Lewis (24) could cross the 20-run mark for the Rajasthan side.
The next highest run-scorer was David Miller, who scored a 23-ball 15. Also, 7 batsmen could not even cross double figures, as the Rajasthan batsmen struggled against a disciplined MI bowling attack.
For the Mumbai Indians (MI), the troika of Jasprit Bumrah, Nathan Coulter Nile, and James Neesham did the damage with the ball. The three men combined to scalp 9 wickets between them, with Coulter Nile doing most of the damage, picking up 4 wickets. With this crushing victory, the Mumbai Indians have moved to the 5th spot in the IPL points table, while the Rajasthan Royals are stationed at the 7th place.
