The T20 World Cup 2021 is all set to begin on October 17 in Oman and the UAE. Teams will be coming up with their best to gain the limelight in the high-profile event which will get staged after five long years. In the same light of events, New Zealand’s opening batsman Martin Guptill stated that they are expecting a tough clash with Pakistan in the upcoming T20 WC.

It is to be noted that Pakistan are due to play against Kiwis in their opening Group two match in Sharjah which will take place on October 26. Guptill added that Pakistan will be a tough opponent and they’ll have to bring their A-game on the table to tackle them.

“They’re a tough opponent and in these conditions, it’s going to be pretty tough again. We’re going to have to be on our A-game and bring it to them and not take a backward step, just like every other game that we play,” said Martin Guptill as quoted by Stuff.

It is known for all that sometimes back New Zealand called off their eight-match white-ball series against Pakistan at the 11th hour. The NZ players refused to take the field at the last minute citing a threat to players’ safety. Talking of the same, Guptill said it was disappointing for everybody who was involved in the tour. He understands that hosts were looking forward to this series and even they wanted some games ahead of T20 WC but it just couldn’t materialize.

I know Pakistan were really looking forward to that series: Martin Guptill

“It was disappointing for everybody involved. We were all really looking forward to playing some cricket and getting a bit of game time before the World Cup and that wasn’t to be. I know Pakistan were really looking forward to having some cricket back in their home country, and we’re all hoping that there is going to be cricket there again soon,” added Guptill.

Talking of Pakistan, they are scheduled to kick off their journey in T20 World Cup with a match against arch-rivals India on October 24 in Dubai International Stadium.
