New Zealand are ready to play a series in Pakistan again after they returned earlier without playing the scheduled three-match ODI series and subsequent five T20Is on September 17. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja informed the same during his briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC). Earlier, the New Zealand cricket team had reached the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium but found something wrong with regards to security arrangements.
Later the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) released a press statement and revealed that they are returning home due to security issues, which they won’t reveal publicly. Raja though during an in-depth briefing to the Senate revealed that NCZ are willing to tour the country again. The former Pakistan captain also said that soon an official confirmation would come.
“The NZ Cricket has expressed its willingness to resend their team to Pakistan, the official decision is expected to be communicated within the next few days. When can we accommodate them? Is a question to which we would be having an answer after getting the full picture from the NZ Board”, Raja said according to International The News.
“Senate committee head Raza Rabbani understood the gravity of the situation and said New Zealand needed to tour Pakistan after what had transpired. “We would look into it your suggestion definitely holds value,” the PCB chairman added.
I have written a strong letter to ICC Chairman Greg Barclay: Ramiz Raja
Ramiz Raja further stated that he has written a letter to ICC Chairman Greg Barclay, also a former NZC cricket head. The PCB chairman mentioned in the letter that how it was important that cricket should not be subservient to groups and countries.
“I never have used such words that I used in my letter to the ICC Chairman. I have done that because we believe we were robbed in front of the game’s governing body which was a mere spectator. I am worried about international cricket as it is fast getting the shape of blocks rather than one unit. It is a dangerous trend and ICC is sitting there as a mere spectator. Cricket should not be subservient to groups and countries having bigger economies or larger interests,” Raja said.
