Following some intense and terrific battles in the group stages as well as in the knockout encounters, both Saurashtra and Karnataka have now successfully secured their meeting in the final match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018. Earlier Karnataka defeated Maharashtra in the first semi-final by 9 wickets, while Saurashtra went past Andhra in the second semi-final match to book their meeting in the finale with Karnataka.

These two teams would now be fighting hard to get their hands on the coveted domestic title, when they face each other on Tuesday, February 27. After missing out on a maiden call-up to the national side, Karnataka in-form batsman Mayank Aggarwal wants to completely aim his focus on the Vijay Hazare Trophy final match.

Selection is not in my hands

Mayank Agarwal has been in a red-hot form in this entire domestic season and has scored heavily in the all the recent domestic competitions. In the ongoing Vijay Hazare tournament, he has amassed 633 runs in seven matches so far, which includes a splendid knock of 140 runs as his highest score. Even after a golden domestic period, the opener failed to receive his maiden national call-up for the upcoming Nidahas Trophy in the Lankan Islands, which will be a tri-nation contest involving, Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh. But the in-form batsman doesn’t want to focus on anything else rather than the upcoming final match of the domestic competition.

“I think India call-up is not in my control, and I don’t want to think about it too much now. I want to focus on the task at hand and that is the Vijay Hazare Trophy final. We’ll be playing on the 27th, and the talk in the dressing room is that the people who are doing well right now have to take the team through. That’s what we’ve spoken about,” said Aggarwal in an exclusive conversation as quoted by News18.

The right-hander mentioned that there are a lot of things going around in his mind and the thoughts of selection rather make it some more difficult.  He even understands the fact that playing the game should be the sole focus for a cricketer.

“There’s a lot of things to worry about in cricket, and thinking about selection can only worry you. And when you’re playing a game that should be your sole focus. So these things don’t really cross your mind,” further added the Karnataka batsman.
