Taniya Bhatia is one of the youngest members of the Indian women’s team. This wicket-keeper batswoman was born on 28 November 1997 in Chandigarh in Punjab. Her father, Sanjay Bhatia, works in Central Bank of India and he was also a cricketer during his younger days. He played the sport at an all India university level.
Moreover, her uncle and brother are also cricketers. This might have inspired Taniya to take up this sport as her profession. While she was studying in DAV Secondary Senior School, she trained under former Indian cricketer and Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh. Currently, she is training under former Indian left-arm pacer RP Singh.
The youngest girl to represent Punjab in U19
In a short span, Taniya has achieved several laurels. She was the youngest girl to represent Punjab at the U-19 level. The 21-year-old was picked in the side when she was just 11. Furthermore, she made rapid progress with her impressive performances and was selected for the senior state team at 16. She represented the North Zone and also captained the U19 North Zone side back in 2015.
However, misery struck as she went into a slump for nearly two years. This almost made her lose interest in cricket but her mother stood by her side during tough times. Taniya fought depression and pursued her dream.
She is a hard-hitter of the cricket ball. But also she is equally skilled at the same time. Taniya Bhatia finds the gaps in the field with ease and clears the ropes when the need arises. She is quite talented with the gloves as well and has got quick hands. The right-hander made her T20I and ODI debuts in 2018 and is evolving to be an important member in the side. Moreover, she has won the hearts of many with her adorable looks.
