Chennai Super Kings have locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. However CSK’s star batter Faf du Plessis doesn’t have a very pleasant memory of this ground. The South African batter had suffered a concussion whilst his last outing here.

Faf du Plessis was a part of the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League. During the team’s match against Peshawar Zalmi, the batter had to face a severe injury. He collided with his teammate Mohammad Hasnain while trying to save a boundary.

Du Plessis was attended by the team physio and then was taken to the hospital for scans. This ruled him out from all forms of cricket for almost four months. However, the Proteas batter recovered from the injury and featured in the recently concluded CPL before regrouping with his IPL franchise CSK. Now, getting back to the venue where the incident occurred, Faf du Plessis was reminded of the injury.

“I walked in here today and I realized the last time I was here was when I picked up my concussion. So it’s probably not the best start to the day so it can only get better from there hopefully. Took a long time – four months to get through that. Still having neck issues from that incident but nothing that’s going to keep me off the park. MS asked me how am I to do those high pocket areas and I said I’m good to go,” Du Plessis said on Star Sports before the start of the match against KKR.

Faf du Plessis has been a pivotal cog of CSK’s wheel

Chennai Super Kings have had a splendid run in the first half of the tournament. Their openers have been instrumental in providing the team with flying starts. The South African batter has chipped in 351 runs in the tournament so far at an impressive average of 50.14. Alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, he has been a crucial aspect of the side.

In the UAE leg as well, CSK got to a steady start, winning both their encounters. A win against KKR will most certainly confirm CSK’s qualification to the playoffs.
