The 4th One-Day International (ODI) between India and Sri Lanka marked a historic day in the game of cricket as former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni achieved the remarkable feat of featuring in 300 ODIs. Interestingly, he became only the 20th player to have reached the milestone. This match on Thursday, once again, saw Dhoni’s unbeatable judgement of the Decision Review System (DRS) come to the forefront.

Apart from his swashbuckling batting style, Dhoni is predominantly known for his cool and composed demeanour on the cricket field, even when faced with a crunch situation. As a bonus, he seems to be equipped with one of the finest senses for taking the correct reviews at the correct time in a match. Owing to this impeccable talent that the man possesses, the DRS has often been called the “Dhoni Review System” by many.

Dhoni convinces Kohli to take a review

The match against the Lankans started off on a positive note for the Indian team, with both Kohli and Rohit Sharma hitting centuries to strengthen the team’s total. Although there was a minor glitch in the middle-order, Dhoni came to the rescue as he scored an unbeaten knock of 49 runs along with Manish Pandey who scored a half century to take India’s total to a formidable 375. It was time for another piece of genius from the 36-year-old when he donned the wicketkeeping gloves in the second innings.

Debutant bowler, Shardul Thakur had managed to get the faintest of nicks off Niroshan Dickwella’s gloves, on the fourth delivery of the second over. In spite of all the noise that the crowd had been making, Dhoni was sure that he had heard an edge. As soon as he took the catch behind the stumps, he went up in an appeal, in spite of the umpire not being fully convinced that the ball had touched anything on its way to the keeper’s gloves.

He had called it a wide, subsequently, the World Cup winning captain was seen chirping animatedly to Virat Kohli, saying that he heard something and he should go for a review. The review, once taken, came back positive and sent Dickwella walking back to the pavilion, once again showcasing the sheer brilliance of Dhoni and his unquestionable cricketing intelligence.

Later in the game, the Indian team opted for another caught behind referral and needless to say it was a successful one as well.
