Bengal middle order batsman, Manoj Tiwary, in a recent no holds barred interview claimed that there still is a lot of cricket left in his Rising Pune Supergiant former captain MS Dhoni and has the right to retire on his own terms, much like he did in Test Cricket. Tiwary also believed that he is India’s answer to Indian Team’s middle order woes in ODI cricket while eyeing a spot in Test cricket in the future.
MS Dhoni has been the centre of attraction due to the never-ending criticism related to his inability to finish games for India like he used to a few years back. His RPS team mate, Tiwary, stated that the arguments about him having to retire from the game are completely baseless and entirely dependent on the man himself.
“I would say he still has a lot left in him. And knowing him, he will retire on his terms and in his own way. For example, we have seen how he retired from Test cricket. So, let’s just leave it to him to decide when he wants to call it quits.” commented Manoj Tiwary on MS Dhoni.
Tiwary has been extremely unlucky regarding getting a break into the Indian side. Just before making his debut for India, Tiwary was forced to sit out due to an injury. Since 2008, he has only played 12 ODIs and was forced to be benched even after scoring his maiden century in his sixth ODI. That said, he still believes that he has a shot at the Indian Test spot.
Tiwary on his chances in the National side
“Yes, I believe I will make it to the Test team in future. I’ve full faith in my ability and my game. Also, I have been playing first-class cricket for quite some time and the statistics are there to prove it. I don’t see any of them (Nair, Herwadkar, Iyer and Panchal) as competition. I would love to keep performing and help my team reach heights across all formats. The rest, I leave it to destiny.” said the man with an average of 52 in first class cricket.
Lately, there have been arguments regarding Indian middle order being fragile in the middle and being heavily dependent on the likes of Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli. When asked if he can be the answer to India’s middle-order woes, Tiwary replied by saying,”Yes, I believe so. I have done well over the years and shown tremendous consistency. It’s about getting that opportunity now.”
