The HotStar documentary “Roar of the Lion” chronicles the journey of return of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) folds in 2018 after completing their two-year ban from the t20 league. The Justice Mudgal committee found officials from CSK involved in illegal betting in IPL matches. In the documentary MS Dhoni, the CSK skipper shares his feelings and views about the ordeal the team and players went through those two years and how the family members and fans supported the team.
Talking of family members, MS Dhoni spoke about his wife Sakshi standing by thick and thin with him during the whole thing. Dhoni had married Sakshi in a private ceremony in 2010, which was the same year Chennai won its first IPL title. The next year in 2011, on one side where India won the ICC World Cup, after a gap of 28 years under the leadership of Dhoni, the India team was also whitewashed on tours of England and Australia and lost their number one Test team ranking.
Dhoni says Sakshi’s contribution to my cricket is very important
As admitted by Dhoni in the docu-series, in 2013 he underwent the darkest phase of his career after his name was dragged into the IPL spot-fixing scandal. He could only do it because of the support and backing of his wife Sakshi. The former India skipper spoke about Sakshi’s contribution during the documentary.
“I feel Sakshi’s contribution to my cricket is very important in its own way wherever and however she can chip in. I always felt she was always there for all of that,” MS Dhoni can be seen saying in the documentary.
In 2018, when the team was gearing for a return, Chennai Super Kings’ management retained MS Dhoni as the captain, along with Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja and then brought Dwayne Bravo and Shane Watson to form a competitive core of the team. Despite the fact majority of the team members were on the wrong side of 30, Dhoni once again proved why he is considered as one of the greatest cricketing minds and captain, as he led CSK to their third title win.
