In an era of cricket where every over matters not just to the players and the teams but also to the board and broadcasters since the money involved a day of play being ruined just with the aftereffects of rain isn’t something common. Grounds around the world these days have the finest drainage facilities available which ensures resumption of play within an hour once the rain stops. But to this point in time, there are venues which haven’t really upgraded to a level where they can allow play despite the sun shining out bright. This is exactly what happened at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain.

The last Test of the 4-match series between West Indies and India is all set to end in a draw after almost 3 days were washed out by rain and despite the rain gods moving over and sun taking its place there was no play possible on the 4th day of the 4th Test due to wet outfield.

The drainage facility at the stadium is substandard and the hardworking groundsmen with literally no option left opted to dig the outfield as the last resort. They were trying to get rid of the moisture the outfield had soaked in after the rain. But despite that they couldn’t really get things going and the umpires after inspection didn’t find conditions suitable for any play and called stumps on the 4th day which marked the third straight day with not even a single ball being bowled. That after only 22 overs of play was possible on the first day of the Test.

It isn’t the most important Test as far as the ongoing series is concerned since the Indian Team has already pocketed the series 2-0. But this would hurt them more with the number 1 Test ranking they very recently earned slipping out of their hands. Team India will lose a couple of points in the Test team rankings once the match ends in a draw and that will position Pakistan at the no.1 spot which they will crown for the first time in the history.
