South African heavyweight AB de Villiers had some good words for Russell Domingo ahead of the latter’s departure. The superstar batsman thanked the South African for his immense contributions to South Africa Cricket and bid farewell to him. After the departure of Domingo, West Indian Ottis Gibson will take over the reigns from him. However, Domingo will remain attached to the CSA as the head coach of the South Africa ‘A’ team.

Russel Domingo was appointed as the South African head coach after the legendary Gary Kirsten in 2013. The recent 3-1 Test defeat to England away from home was Domingo’s last assignment with the senior team. AB de Villers too to his newly launched app ‘AB17’ and shared a video thanking Domingo for his outstanding contributions. The player mentioned that the head coach had a great impact on him and the other members of the team.

What De Villers had to say:

“We’ll miss Russell Domingo a lot, he has had a fantastic run as coach we got along with him really well,” said De Villiers.

“He has had a big impact on all of us as cricketers. added De Villiers.

“Well done to Russ on a great cricketing career as a coach.” said the South African batsman.

Ottis Gibson was associated with the England Cricket Board as the bowling coach. After the completion of a deal between the CSA and ECB, Gibson has now been handed over the duty of guiding the South African side by the board. Skipper Faf du Plessis has been talking to other players to know more about the new coach which involves cricketers like Ben Stokes.

Meanwhile, De Villers has announced his return to all forms of cricket for his nation starting from mid-October. The batsman had taken a break from Test cricket to stretch his limited overs career and remain fit for the 2019 World Cup in South Africa. But the move was highly criticized by former South African cricketers including Herschelle Gibbs and Ashwell Prince.
