S Sreesanth arguably has to go down in the Indian cricketing history as the most controversial character. The talented right-arm bowler who grew at a rapid pace in his international career and played a key part in India’s inaugural World T20 win against Pakistan has had a tumultuous life ever since.

The pacer from Kerala was in and out of the Indian squad and had a troublesome time in the Indian Premier League where he was leaking runs right-left and centre. However, it was not the end of things for the pacer. In the 2013 edition of the IPL, he was caught under charges of alleged involvement in spot-fixing a game. According to the Delhi Police, he signalled to the bookies using a towel that was there with him while bowling.

Investigations by the cops in the spot-fixing scandal led them to him through other bookies that were caught and the pacer was arrested and sent to the high-profile Tihar jail. Sreesanth was eventually acquitted by the Delhi court hearing the case since there was no conclusive evidence with the cops that linked the developments in the game and his deal with the bookmakers.

In an exclusive interview with the Republic, Sreesanth opened up about his life and made startling revelations that more players were involved in the scandal and how the BCCI is shielding them.

13 players were named in the report

According to Sreesanth, there were 13 names that were named in Mudgal Committee report and BCCI had requested that these names not be revealed. “I remember that the 13 names were named in the Mudgal committee report and BCCI had then requested not to reveal the names as it may affect the Indian Cricket,” said the former Indian bowler.

He went on to question the BCCI’s treatment of these players as compared to him, “Even I was accused without anything and I was in Tihar jail, I’m not saying I want to know the 13 names or I’m going to reveal it. But when I was interrogated in the Delhi cell, so many names were taken, players who currently play cricket for different countries. So I’m just saying what about them?” questioned the Kerala bowler.

The bowler finally hinted that the names of the players’ he knew were involved are players playing cricket at the highest level till date. He further said that these players still play the IPL even after the BCCI concealed their names.

“The Mudgal Committee was appointed after I got bail and it was then that these names appeared and they were all playing the IPL, they played the IPL the next year also and they are playing international cricket currently.” the pacer concluded.
