29-year old Bangladesh batsman Shamsur Rahman has reasons to smile after being picked up by Rangpur Raiders for the upcoming edition of BPL. The cricketer remained unsold in the player’s draft during the auction and it looked like he would miss out on participating in the T20 competition. The cricketer had turned out for Barisal Bulls in the last season.
He didn’t set the stage on fire in the previous two editions and failed to put up vital contributions for his side. In 20 matches in the BPL, the batsman has scored 509 runs at an average of 28.29 along with an ordinary strike rate of 117.28.
Shamsur is delighted
Shamsur thanked his new franchise Rangpur Riders for giving him an opportunity during this crisis phase and said, “Alhamdulillah. Feeling good for getting the opportunity. I will try to give my best effort if I get a chance. Looking forward to make Rangpur Riders happy.” Shamsur has played 6 Test matches for the Tigers and scored 305 runs at an average of just over 25. In 10 ODIs, the batsman has made 266 runs at an not so eye-catching average of 26. 60. He has also represented Bangladesh in T20Is, playing 9 games and scoring 86 runs with a best of 53.
Rangpur ropes in big names
Rangpur have an impressive line-up with the likes of West Indies power-hitter Chris Gayle, veteran T20 expert Lasith Malinga, England batsman Ravi Bopara and many more. They will look to start the tournament on a good note and continue with the momentum.
