Day three commenced with England beginning their innings at 207 for two, with Ben Duckett and Joe Root at the crease. Shortly after, Root's attempt at a little adventurous play, opting for the reverse-lap, resulted in his dismissal.

Although he frequently employs the shot, it didn't quite connect, taking an edge and swiftly flying to Jaiswal at second slip. Jaiswal reacted quickly, securing the breakthrough early in the day that India needed. Jonny Bairstow was dismissed cheaply, and soon Duckett followed suit after scoring 153, falling victim to Kuldeep Yadav.

Following Duckett's dismissal, no English batters could withstand the precise Indian bowling, led by Mohammad Siraj, who claimed four wickets. Captain Ben Stokes put up some resistance, but the rest of the batters were dismissed cheaply, resulting in the English team being wrapped up for 319. Kuldeep and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each.

In the second innings, the Indian team lost captain Rohit Sharma early on, as he was dismissed for just 19 off 28 balls. The ball was very full on the stumps, from round the wicket, and Rohit missed the sweep, resulting in three reds on review.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill then forged an outstanding 155-run partnership for the second wicket. Jaiswal completed his century, scoring 104 off 133 balls with nine fours and five sixes, before being retired hurt due to a back spasm issue. Rajat Patidar's challenging Test continued as he missed another opportunity and was dismissed without opening his account.

Gill, on the other end, looked strong and remained not out at 65, with Kuldeep supporting him at the crease as a night watchman. India concluded the day at 196/2, holding a lead of 322 runs with eight wickets in hand.
