England have reached the finals after a stupendous victory against India in the semi-final two of the T20 World Cup 2022 at the Adelaide Oval and will take on Pakistan in the final at the MCG on Sunday. Jos Buttler and Alex Hales knocked India out of the tournament with a brutal unbroken partnership of 170 and won the game with all ten wickets in hand.

Earlier in the game, England opted to bowl first after winning the toss and the Men in Blue lost an early wicket of KL Rahul. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli tried to see off the new ball and hence, the powerplay proved to be ineffective for the Indian side. Rohit perished after a 28-ball 27 while Suryakumar Yadav played a cameo of 10-ball 14.

Kohli played a typical innings by taking his time early on and accelerated towards the end with a flurry of boundaries to reach another half-century. However, it was Hardik Pandya’s 63 off 33 balls which took India to a competitive total of 168 for 6 in the 20 overs. For England, Chris Jordan picked three wickets for 43 in his four overs.

Indian bowlers face the heat from England openers

Chasing the total, England openers were off to a brisk start and never allowed the Indian seamers to settle. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was taken to the cleaners in his first two overs by the English opening duo. The risk paid off as England had a productive powerplay and it straightaway had a big impact on the other bowlers.

Hales, in particular, took the aerial route while playing towards the short boundaries and his powerful ball striking put the Indian spinners out of the game. England got to 100 in no time and carried away the momentum throughout the chase which meant that Indian bowlers had no answers. In the end, Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 80 while Hales’ unbeaten 47-ball 86 helped England chase down the total in just 16 overs.
