Former India skipper and one of the most flamboyant players of his time, Kris Srikkanth reckons that Suresh Raina’s stay for a bit more time at the crease will do a world of good for the men in Yellow. Srikkanth, who was the adviser for CSK, a few seasons back, is gutted with Raina’s approach in the recent past in the shortest format.
The former Indian opener believes that going after the bowlers is neither helping the team’s cause nor Raina’s. He needs to give himself more time in the middle before unleashing his power play. The Southpaw hasn’t been able to count on his starts in the past given he has been looking good ever since his comeback.
Srikkanth, on Raina being the key for CSK
Highlighting the role that Suresh Raina owes to the team given his all-round skills and the ability to win matches single-handedly, Srikkanth mentioned, “Over the last decade, Suresh Raina’s form has been one of the key factors in the success of Chennai Super Kings. The latter is a different unit when Raina comes to the party.”
The 58-year old looked deeply hurt on his approach at the beginning as a batsmen, “My observation of Raina since his comeback in to the national T20 scheme of things is that he needs to give himself a few more deliveries to settle down in the middle before unleashing his range of shots,” wrote Srikkanth in his column for TOI.
Mighty impressed with Bravo’s attitude
Srikkanth was highly impressed with Carribean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, as his blistering knock of 68 paved the way for a CSK win. In his writing, Srikkanth mentions about his self-belief that he felt, grew with every falling wicket, “I think self-belief is his greatness.” His exploits with the ball are hidden to none and his contributions to the side are immense. “A key strike-bowler at the death, Bravo hitting form with the bat at the beginning of the tournament is a big boost for CSK, “he said.
Now when CSK returns to the fore in IPL, they play their first home game against Kolkata on April 10. Mentioning about the adopted son of Chennai, the skipper, “Dhoni has always been a master tactician while operating his spin resources on tracks that offer assistance for the tweakers. The way he handles his spinners during the Powerplay is quite a treat to watch and his knowledge of the Chepauk pitch would be a big advantage,” wrote Srikkanth, who captained India in four Test matches and 13 ODIs.
