Team Surrey have faced two major injury hits this season. They had roped in the services of Australian all-rounder Mitch Marsh for the season. But the Aussie had to pull out of the commitment owing to an injury. They then signed the big deal Virat Kohli but a neck injury ruled out the Indian captain. Now, as per the recent reports in ESPNcricinfo, Surrey have signed up Nic Maddinson for the upcoming Vitality Blast 2018.
The Australian opener last played for the national side in the year 2016. He is an attacking opening batsman. The Chief Director of the Surrey camp is excited to have Nic onboard and believes the batsman will deliver for the side. Nic will have the company of his Australian teammate Aaron Finch.
“We’re delighted to have recruited Nic alongside Aaron Finch as an overseas player for this year’s Vitality Blast. Nic is an exciting batsman who brings a wealth of T20 experience to the squad,” Surrey’s director of cricket, Alec Stewart said.
Nic Maddinson happy to be on board
Meanwhile, Nic Maddinson is also very happy to play for the new team. He is looking forward to the opportunity and hopes to come out good for the side. He also expressed his delight over the prospect of playing under the head coach Michael Di Venuto. Also, he is looking forward to playing at the iconic Kia Oval.
“I very much look forward to playing with Surrey during this year’s Vitality Blast season. It’s a fabulous opportunity to play at a great sporting organisation such as Surrey County Cricket Club and with my Australian counterpart Aaron Finch,” Nic Maddinson quoted.
“I also welcome the opportunity of working with head coach Michael Di Venuto. Having the Kia Oval as our home ground also gives me the chance to play at one of England’s great iconic grounds. Let’s hope I can help Surrey win the title,” he added further.
