The eighteenth day of action in the Vitality T20 Blast was quite an uneventful one. Four games were supposed to be played on this day. Three of these games were South group games while one was a North group game. However, there wasn’t much of action on the day which ended up being a huge disappointment.

Three of the games were abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled. Moreover, the only game that was played had a brief interruption and had to be slightly shortened. One point was shared between both the teams in the games that were abandoned. Kent leads the points table in the South group with 9 points. Lancashire continues to top the points table in the North group. Here is how things progressed on this day:

Somerset vs Middlesex – South Group

Middlesex won the toss and opted to field first in this game. The Somerset batsmen were absolutely brutal with the bat and posted a huge total on the board. Although they lost both their openers quite early in the innings, the other batsmen kept going hard. Peter Trego scored 60 off 31 balls. Corey Anderson remained unbeaten with a 24-ball 41 towards the end. However, the best innings came from the bat of skipper Lewis Gregory. He continued his good form and scored 62 off just 26 balls towards the end to take his team to 229 for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Tom Baber picked three wickets in the Somerset innings. Middlesex had to chase 213 runs in 18 runs as their innings was cut short due to rain. However, they struggled to reach at least close to the target. Their batsmen failed to capitalize on the starts they got. Opener Paul Stirling scored 30 off 16 balls. Eskinazi followed it up with a 32-ball 55. But, Somerset still fell short of the target by a massive 38 runs.

Brief Scores:

SOM: 229/6 in 20 overs (L Gregory 62, P Trego 60, Tom Barber 3/37)

MDX: 174/6 in 18 overs (Eskinazi 55, Paul Stirling 30, Lewis Gregory 4/28)

[DLS Method- 2nd Innings reduced to 18 overs due to rain]
