Indian dished out an absolute thrashing to the Afghanistan side in their 3rd Super 12 Match of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli and his men beat the Mohammad Nabi-led side by a whopping margin of 66 runs to post their first win of the tournament.
Chasing a mammoth target of 211, Afghanistan could only manage to score 144/7 in their 20 overs. Karim Janat top-scored for the Afghanistan side with a 22-ball 42*, while Mohammad Nabi scored 35 off 32 deliveries. None of the other batsmen could cross the 20-run mark. Mohammed Shami scalped 3 wickets for India with the ball, while Ravichandran Ashwin prized out 2 willow wielders.
The Indian batsmen made merry at the expense of the Afghanistan bowlers. Every Indian willow wielder who came out to bat tore into the Afghanistan bowling attack, and Mohammad Nabi and his men ran out of answers.
And, in a superb batting effort, India posted a gargantuan total of 210/2 on the board. Rohit Sharma top-scored for India with a 47-ball 74, while KL Rahul scored 69 off 48 deliveries. And, the Rohit-Rahul duo put on a partnership of 140 runs for the opening wicket.
After the departure of Sharma and Rahul, Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant joined forces and forged a sensational partnership of 63 runs in just 3.3 overs to propel India past the 200-run mark. After this crushing win, India are occupying the 4th place in the points table, while Afghanistan are positioned at the 2nd spot.
New Zealand beat Scotland by 16 runs
The New Zealand side beat Scotland by 16 runs in their 3rd Super 12 encounter of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Batting first, the Kiwis posted a challenging total of 172/5 on the board. Martin Guptill single-handedly ripped apart the Scotland bowling attack.
The right-handed opening batsman plundered 93 off just 56 deliveries, and his innings was filled with 6 fours and 7 sixes. Apart from Guptill, Glenn Phillips also scored a 37-ball 33 as well.
In reply, the Scotland side could only manage to post 156/5 in their 20-over quota. Michael Leask top-scored for the Scotland outfit with a brisk 42* at a strike rate in excess of 200. With this win, New Zealand has moved to the 3rd place in the points table, while the Scotland outfit is occupying the last place.
