Sri Lanka posted their second victory of the Super 12 stages of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup beating the West Indies side by 20 runs. Chasing a target of 190 set by Sri Lanka, West Indies could only manage a total of 169/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
West Indies lost their first 2 wickets with just 10 runs on the board. Shimron Hetmyer top-scored with a 54-ball 81*, while Nicholas Pooran scored 46 off 34 deliveries.
Sri Lanka posted a commanding total of 189/3 on the board. Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka were the catalysts of the Sri Lankan side with the willow. While Nissanka scored 51 off 41 deliveries, Asalanka scored a masterly 41-ball 68.
Andre Russell was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies, and scalped 2 wickets with the ball, while Dwayne Bravo picked up one wicket. With this victory, Sri Lanka has moved to 4th place in the points table, while West Indies are occupying the 5th spot.
Australia whip Bangladesh by 8 wickets
In one of the most one-sided matches in T20I history, Australia absolutely destroyed Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the Super 12 clash between the two sides. Batting first, the Bangladesh side produced an abysmal performance with the willow and was bowled out for just 73.
Not even a single Bangladesh batsman could even cross the 20-run mark. Shamim Hossain top-scored for the Mahmudullah led side scoring 19, while Mohammad Naim scored a 16-ball 17. Adam Zampa ran through the Bangladesh batting lineup and scalped a five-wicket haul.
In reply, Australia hammered the Bangladesh bowling attack. All it took for the kangaroos to chase down the target was just 6.2 overs. Aaron Finch scored a whirlwind 40 at a strike rate of 200 for the kangaroos. With this victory, Australia has moved to 2nd place in the points table, while Bangladesh are helplessly placed at the last spot.
