Before becoming a regular feature in the Indian team in the last couple of years, Dinesh Karthik was busy representing his state side Tamil Nadu. The India star has never shied away from donning the Tamil Nadu jersey and his passion to take the team to greater heights needs no introduction. Time and again, Karthik has reiterated his desire to propel Tamil Nadu to the pinnacle.
Perhaps this is the reason why he has always given priority to playing for his state team. Well, the selectors have now rewarded him by giving the captaincy of the Tamil Nadu team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy this season. Tamil Naduâs chairman of selectors M. Senthilnathan is now hoping that Karthik would do wonders for the side.
Senthilnathan was all praise for Karthik, hailing the wicketkeeper-batsman as a âwonderful motivatorâ. The chief selector is also hopeful of him bringing out the best in the talented side. âDinesh has the ability to get the best out of the youngsters. He is a wonderful motivator. In fact, Dinesh is a great bridge between the seniors and the younger bunch,â he told Sportstar.
Karthikâs message to his teammates
Ahead of the campaign, Dinesh Karthik has some words of advice for his teammates. The seasoned campaigner spoke on what his team needs to do to excel in the upcoming tournament. âWe need to be good in the middle overs, both with bat and ball. We need to run hard, collect singles and twos. And we have to pick wickets during the middle phase,â said Dinesh Karthik.
Karthik was also delighted with the teamâs bowling arsenal as he singled out the names he would bank upon to get things done in the tournament. âWe have T. Natarajan and K. Vignesh, but I want them fit. I am excited about G Periyaswamy.
âWe have R. Ashwin and Washington Sundar as off-spinners, we have some good left-armers and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy will walk into the side once he is fit. We still need a couple of good wrist spinners. I hope Murugan Ashwin comes good,â he added.
