Team India, reportedly, have sent back four net bowlers to India during their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 in Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Karn Sharma, Shahbaz Ahmed, Venkatesh Iyer and Krishnappa Gowtham are believed to be the four net bowlers for the tournament and are already said to have landed in India.

The four players will now take part in the upcoming edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, scheduled to get underway on November 4. It’s been learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India wanted the cricketers to get enough match practice.

“Yes, there won’t be too many net sessions once the tournament starts. The national selectors feel that all the spinners especially would benefit if they go back and play Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for their respective states. They need match practice,” a senior BCCI official, on conditions of anonymity, was quoted as saying on Cricket.com.

Among the four players, only Iyer and Ahmed got chances to play in their respective teams during the IPL. Even as Iyer plied his trade for the two-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders, Ahmed honed his skills for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Sharma and Gowtham were part of the 2021 champions Chennai Super Kings, but they didn’t get to play enough amidst the presence of quite a few big Indian stars.

India to start campaign against Pakistan

In the meantime, Team India are set to start their World Cup campaign on Sunday, October 24 against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In their previous meetings in the mega event, the Men in Blue have come out trumps every other time. The last time they faced in the T20 World Cup was back in 2016 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

India, led by Virat Kohli, must be high on confidence after resounding wins over England and Australia in the warm-ups. The tournament also happens to be Kohli’s last as Team India’s skipper in the T20I format. Earlier, he also decided to give up RCB’s captaincy in the IPL. Apart from Pakistan, India will also face New Zealand, Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia in the Super 12s.
