With the dawn of the new year, the South African cricket team faces a congested fixture as they host the Men in Blue across all the three formats of the game. Following the bilateral series, the Proteas will take on Australia. South Africa’s One-Day International and T20I fixtures in February itself comprises of nine matches. Thus, a brief look at the fixtures suggests that quite a few cricketers can get into the fray. And amongst them, Temba Bavuma looks almost certain to have a serious shot at playing more white-ball cricket for the Proteas soon.

Bavuma aims to use the upcoming Ram Slam T20 Challenge as a launching pad to render his flair and skills with the willow and get more ODI and T20 recognition. The first black African cricketer to score a Test century for South Africa, however, acknowledges that there might be an incentive, but he is quick to add that he has not thought that far ahead.

Speaking about his opinions on the different formats of the game, the right-hander revealed, “Where Test cricket is all about the pressures that go with that format, T20 cricket is about going out, expressing yourself and having fun. Batting sets you up in T20 cricket, but it is the bowlers who win competitions.”

Bavuma to feature for Cobras against the Dolphins

The swashbuckling batsman will be one of the four recognized international players in the Cape Cobras top and middle-order in their opening T20 Challenge match against the Dolphins. The teams play each other at SuperSport Park on Sunday.

The dynamic middle-order batsman is one of South Africa’s most underrated cricketers in the limited-overs format. He is one of the world’s premier athletes and has all the characteristics to become a fully entrenched player for the Proteas across all three formats.
