The Under-19 skipper Prithvi Shaw has had a scintillating stint in the recently concluded Under-19 World Cup, and one will have to say, the tournament gave a glimpse of what Shaw and his troops are capable off. From the blistering 94 runs against Australia in the opener to lead the team to the final and getting their hands on the coveted title for the fourth time helps populous witness the caliber this 18-year-old carries.

Speaking to the Times of India, Prithvi Shaw was asked whether he believes that he is ready to play in the senior circuit, to this Prithvi said, “I think so. I have to keep scoring runs. I have to grab those opportunities to be there in the senior team.” This shows that he believes in himself and is eyeing that all-important spot.

Eyeing for a spot in the senior team

In past, the BCCI chairman of selectors MSK Prasad mentioned that the senior selection committee has been keeping track of the performances of the young guns and that they could well consider some of them for India ‘A’ tours to ensure steady progress. “We have been following all their matches and they will be considered for the ‘A’ team. We have been backing a particular set of players and have been consistent in our selection policy for both the senior team and the ‘A’ team,” said Prasad

Time and again, Prithvi Shaw is compared to the great Sachin Tendulkar, and he knows that expectations will always be on the higher side. He said, “Expectations will be there. Obviously, people will compare with Sachin sir or somebody else. But I know my game and I better be grounded. I have not even started and it’s a long journey.”

Prithvi Shaw is currently featuring in the premier one-day tournament the Vijay Hazare Trophy and looks to keep his whole fortitude there and not let the IPL call-up affect him. “I don’t know what they are (IPL franchise) thinking. Personally, I’m not thinking about it now because I’m here to play Vijay Hazare. I will plan how to play in IPL when the tournament nears. I would like to be in present,” he concluded.
