Bangladesh’s batsman Tushar Imran on Tuesday became the first batsman from the country to score 10,000 runs in first-class cricket. Tushar plays first-class cricket for the Prime Bank South Zone. He reached the mark in 260 first-class innings at an average of 42.04.

The 34-year-old represented the Bangladesh national team in 5 Tests and 41 ODIs. However, he had a poor run representing the national team. He only averages 8.9 in Test matches and 14.35 in ODIs that led to his ouster from the Bangla team. He last played for the Tigers way back in 2007.

Reaching the landmark

Although he was off-colour at the highest level, he has been a noteworthy contributor for his first-class side. Tushar was 35 runs away from the milestone when he went out to bat against the Walton Central Zone. This match was played at BKSP in the Bangladesh Cricket League. At stumps, the right-handed batsman was unbeaten on 40.

The game was delayed by fog and wet pitch. As a result, there were only 33 overs of play. After being put into bat, the South Zone lost the wickets of Soumya Sarkar and Mehidy Hassan early. Sarkar fell after scoring 10 runs while Hassan was dismissed for 1 run.

Even though the side was reeling on 22 for the loss of two wickets, opener Shahriar Nafees and Tushar took charge. Both the batsmen added an unbroken 86-runs stand for the third wicket. The partnership propelled South Zone to 108 for the loss of two wickets. Shahriar Nafees was unbeaten on 53. He managed to hit 10 boundaries and a six during the innings. Central Zone’s Abu Haider and Ebadat Hossain picked up a wicket each.

Recently, Tushar Imran scored 105 runs off 163 balls with 23 fours for Prime Bank South Zone in the 1st round of BCL-6.
