Dinesh Karthik was India’s first-choice wicket-keeper in their tour of England. However, he flattered to deceive in the first two matches and was subsequently sidelined. Rishabh Pant didn’t get an opportunity early on but was eventually drafted in place of the Tamil Nadu-born wicketkeeper-batsman in the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, which India won by 203 runs.
Pant defended his first delivery, however, in the very next delivery, he danced down the track and deposited Adil Rashid into the stands over long on. Unfortunately, the 20-year-old couldn’t quite carry on and get a substantial score under his belt. The Uttarakhand-born cricketer got out cheaply on both occasions, much to his dismay, in the fourth Test at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
Pant scores his first century
In the first innings of the last Test at Kennington Oval in London, he was nipped out by Ben Stokes. In the second innings, he came into his own and mixed caution with aggression. Most importantly, he played some calculative strokes. The swashbuckling batsman eventually racked up his maiden Test century in merely 117 deliveries with the help of 14 boundaries and three sixes.
In the first ball of the 72nd over, he smoked Rashid over mid-wicket to audaciously enter into his 90’s. Thereafter, he dealt in singles to reach 95 runs. Just everyone thought that he would curb his natural instincts en route his ton, he went for another slog sweep and reached his ton with another humungous whack into the stands at KIA Oval.
Rashid tossed the ball and Pant knelt down to pick the bones out of the delivery. More importantly, with the knock, he has lent appropriate support to KL Rahul at the other end. In the meantime, following his stupendous exhibition of strokeplay, Twitter heaped praises on the pugnacious potential.

First time in this millennium two Indians have scored centuries in the 4th innings of a Test and they were the top-2 run-getters among Indians in the latest IPL season.
KL Rahul & Rishabh Pant, take a bow! #EngvInd
