Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) emerged victorious by ten runs against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a thrilling contest.
Upon winning the toss, Sanju Samson put the visiting team to bat first. Royals started off impressively as pacer Trent Boult returned with a maiden, his eighth first-over maiden in the IPL, which is also the joint-most with Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
LSG’s opening duo of KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers put up a decent start as they got 82 runs for the first wicket before the skipper headed back to the dugout. With the ball coming slower off the deck, explosive hitter Mayers, too, found it tricky to smoke the ball on a consistent basis for the big runs.
However, the southpaw got his half-century off 40 balls and intended to shift gears despite the fall of wickets. Deepak Hooda, who was celebrating his birthday today, failed to hit the ground running and continued his lean patch in the ongoing season by returning a score of two to his name.
Ravichandran Ashwin got the vital scalps of Hooda and Mayers (51 off 42) in the same over to dent the rival’s batting innings. A clinical bowling performance helped the Royals restrict LSG to 154 in the first innings. Ashwin got two wickets, whereas Sandeep Sharma, Jason Holder, and Boult got one wicket apiece.

In reply, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal raised a big partnership for the first wicket as they got 87 runs to keep RR steady in the chase. Just when the home side seemed to be in their element to earn a potential win, Marcus Stoinis struck twin blows to dismiss the openers.
Jaiswal cracked 44 runs off 35, whereas Buttler got 40 off 41. Skipper Samson and explosive hitter Shimron Hetmyer too, were sent packing for a combined score of four runs. In doing so, LSG clawed their way back into the contest. Impact Player Devdutt Padikkal and Riyan Parag, too, failed to get the big scores as the Royals lost grip in the chase.
With 19 runs required off the final over, it was Avesh Khan who got back-to-back wickets to snatch the game away from the Royals. In doing so, LSG won by ten runs in the thrilling affair.
