Mitchell Starc created history as he became the quickest bowler to claim 100 wickets in One-Day Internationals (ODI) cricket. He broke the record held by the former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, which was achieved on May 12, 1997, at Gwalior while playing against Sri Lanka.

Starc broke the record in the first ODI match between Australia and Sri Lanka, which was his 52nd ODI match. Dhananjaya de Silva was his 100th victim, which he picked in the 33rd over of the match at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Coming into the match, the left-arm pacer had 98 wickets from his 51 ODIs at an average of 19.79 and his strike rate being 24.60. In the Test series against Sri Lanka, Starc broke the record held by Sir Richard Hadlee by becoming the highest wicket-taker in a Test series in Asia while playing for an overseas team. However, Sri Lanka whitewashed Australia in the Test series to seal the series 3-0.

Former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond is next in the list, who achieved the feat in his 54th ODI, which was against Australia in Adelaide on January 23, 2007. The second quickest Australian to 100 ODI wickets was Brett Lee, who achieved the feat in his 55th ODI match, against England in January 2003 at Melbourne.

Starc is undoubtedly one of the dangerous bowlers of the current generation and if he continues in this form, I doubt, there won’t much bowling records left to be broken.
