The three-match ODI series between India and England got underway in Nottingham at the Trent Bridge. The visitors handed a debut to Siddarth Kaul due to an injury to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But what irked the fans was the axing of Dinesh Karthik who has played only a single game on this tour so far. Suresh Raina was preferred ahead of him who made a comeback to the ODI side after close to three years.

The left-hander was included in the squad only after Ambati Rayudu was dropped for not being able to clear the yo-yo test. But Dinesh Karthik was expected to play ahead of Raina at least in the first game of the series given the way he has been batting recently. He was also part of the team during South Africa tour and should’ve been given an opportunity to prove himself before picking Raina.

Also, a lot of experts wanted Karthik to be included in the playing XI as they wanted him to be tested ahead of the World Cup in the same country next year.

Chance for Raina to seal his place?

Suresh Raina, however, has a golden chance to seal his place in the side. He has looked in good touch so far n the United Kingdom on this tour and more importantly has played all the matches so far. In the ongoing One-Day International in Nottingham, it seems that he will bat at 6 in the line-up which will give a cushion to MS Dhoni to go bonkers early in his innings. Also, Raina gives a sixth bowling option which might have tilted the scales in his favour.

But Twitterati has already termed his return as the blunder as they were not at all pleased with Dinesh Karthik being benched. They lashed out ar Virat Kohli and Dhoni over the same even as few felt sad for Karthik after constantly being ignored despite a good show in limited chances.
