The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced three different squads for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Australia. Though there are a few changes in all the teams, KL Rahul’s name is constant. He is part of the team despite both the openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan being in the squad for all the five One-Day Internationals.

Rahul hasn’t played many matches off late for India with Rohit and Dhawan constantly performing well. Moreover, he is being looked at as a reserve opener for the World Cup and wasn’t in form at all. His Test failures and the Koffee with Karan controversy made things worse for Rahul and was sent back midway through the Australia tour as well. When the suspension was lifted, he was added in India A squad for the One-Day series against England Lions.

Even there he failed to impress and one felt that all the doors are closed for the talented cricketer who looked at his best in the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year.

Rahul last played against Afghanistan in Asia Cup

As far as the ODIs is concerned, KL Rahul last played an ODI for India in the Asia Cup against Afghanistan which MS Dhoni led with the team already qualifying for the final. He scored a half-century in the middling chase in that game but threw his wicket away when the century was there for taking. Unfortunately, it all went downhill for him and the off-field controversies also kept him away from the team.

But come the four-day games, the opener found his groove again even as the chief selector maintained that KL Rahul has to score runs to make a comeback. A couple of half-centuries in two matches followed from his bat and now finds himself back in the ODI squad.

But the Twitterati isn’t impressed at all as the runs scored by Rahul were in the longest format and his form in the 50-over contest is still under a cloud. Having said that, this is the last chance for Rahul to stake his claim and he will be looking to grab it with both the hands.
