Team India has had a phenomenal run at the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand. Going into the tournament as one of the hot favorites, they lived up to the expectations. They’ve comfortably defeated Australia in the finals to bring the cup back home. India won the World Cup for the fourth time, the most by any team and also didn’t lose a single match in the tournament.

The U19 Colts are being rewarded for their terrific performances courtesy of the fact that many of them were picked for the IPL this season. Moreover, few players also managed to make it to their state teams at such a young age. Arshdeep Singh, who was a member of the U19 squad is now selected in the Punjab Under-23 squad.

Karan Kalia to lead the U-23 side

Arshdeep Singh was roped into the Indian U-19 squad after Ishan Porel injured himself in the first game against New Zealand. Arshdeep also played two games in the Junior World Cup in absence of Ishan Porel. Porel was ruled out for a couple of games after being injured during the first game of the tournament in New Zealand.

Arshdeep played his two games against Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe, before making way for Porel. The latter made his comeback for the next three games against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Australia. Currently, Arshdeep is named in the Punjab U23 team for the knockout stage of CK Nayudu Trophy 2017-18.

Karan Kaila has been appointed as the captain of Punjab U23 side that also includes Anmolpreet Singh. Kalai was axed from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad earlier today. Also, he played a VHT game for Punjab against Odisha today. However, he will now have to play the under-23 tournament. Kalia was the fourth highest run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy 2017-18. He scored 753 runs in just seven innings at an average of 125.50.

Kalia was included in the Board President’s XI side to face the visiting Sri Lankan team in a two-day practice game last year. He also represented Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament 2017-18.

In the league stage of CK Nayudu Trophy, Punjab won two of the four games to qualify for the second round of the tournament. They will be facing Odisha in the quarterfinal contest on February 9 in Kanpur.

Squad: Karan Kaila (Captain), Abhijeet Garg, Sanvir Singh, Nikhil Chaudhary, Anmolpreet Singh, Navneet Singh Virk, Anmol Malhotra (WK), Ramandeep Singh, Abhinav Sharma, Arpit Singh Pannu, Akul Pandove, Sukhjinder Singh, Arshdeep Singh, Jagjit Singh, Taranpreet Singh.
