Two deliveries from Ashes 2013

Watch: Two deliveries from Ashes 2013 that left everyone shocked: In hot conditions, the hardened pitches begin to crack and wither, and assists the bowlers immensely, especially during the 3rd and the 4th day. And that was one of the major specialties of the WACA pitch, at Perth. Now decommissioned, the ground was termed as graveyard for visitors for the prodigious bounce it provided. Another aspect of the ground was these cracks. But in England’s 5-0 drubbing in 2013 Ashes down under, the Perth pitch, as time progressed, behaved like never before.

On the day 5 of the third Test between Australia and England, the cracks within the pitch were so wide, even phones were slipping into it, according to the pitch report. And when the bowlers came to ball, it was a whole new story all-together. Two instances prove how wide the cracks were, and what happened in those two deliveries.

Watch: Two deliveries from Ashes 2013 that left everyone shocked:

1. Ryan Harris delivery leaves Ben Stokes shaken:

In the first instance of the day, Ryan Harris was steaming in to Ben Stokes. Being the last recognized batsman on the pitch, he had a huge responsibility on his back. But seeing this delivery, despite his reaction, it must have shaken him. Harris bowled one on the middle, coming over the wicket for the left hander. It hit one of the cracks, and the movement off the crack generated surprising reaction from the players, spectators and the fans alike. The deviation angle was nearly 6 degrees, and this was just the start.
